About Self-Funding Advisor

Brokers placing small and mid-size groups outside the fully insured market face the same problem every renewal season: the alternative-funding shelf is spread across dozens of vendor sites, general-agency portals and PDFs, and none of them answer the first question, which is whether a given program will even take the group.

Self-Funding Advisor is a reference built to answer that question. It lists level-funded and self-funded programs, direct primary care providers and reference-based pricing vendors with their published state availability, group-size limits and terms, and it pairs every state with its stop-loss statute rules and regulator contact.

No vendor pays to be listed or can edit its own record. Our methodology explains how records are compiled and what is deliberately left out, and the disclosure below explains where the site stands commercially.

Who runs it

Self-Funding Advisor is edited by Sam Edwards, who has spent 21 years in insurance, the last 12 in employee benefits, across voluntary benefits, retail benefits brokerage and self-funding consulting.

The directory grew out of the research needed to answer this question for real employer groups, and it is maintained by hand rather than scraped. Records are compiled from vendor primary sources and state regulators; no vendor pays to be listed or can edit its own record.
